What the PSS can do to help

Low Vision Assessment

In 2012 we moved into specially designed premises which incorporates our fully-equipped sight centre where we provide a low vision service. Our low-vision therapist is on hand to offer help, advice, and recommendations on lighting, contrast, magnification and other aids to vision. Our sight-centre has a wide variety of low vison aids from simple hand-held magnifiers to sophisticated electronic magnifiers, CCTV's and smartphone technology specially designed for people with a visual impairment. Training is also given in the use of visual and non-visual techniques in order to help you get the most out of your remaining vision. If you would like to see our low-vision therapist please contact us for an appointment. Our low vision therapist is also on hand to give help and advice by phone if you cannot make it to our offices.

Although we are situated in Doncaster, you are welcome to visit us from anywhere in this country or overseas. Doncaster is easily accessible and well served by national rail, road and air links.

Aids to Daily Living

Many things considered essential by people with normal sight are not designed with people with a visual impairment in mind. The PSS has sourced a wide range of items, from time pieces to playing cards, which can help. In addition we stock a range of magnifiers, electronic vision aids, telephones, heavy lined notepaper and large print calendars and diaries. If you have a broadband connection catalogues can be downloaded from the Catalogue and Orders page. Alternatively phone/write/e-mail for a free copy. Payment can be made by cheque, debit or credit card.

Drop-in Centre

If you are in the Doncaster area our premises at 1 Bennettthorpe are open between
9.30 am and 4.30 pm Monday to Friday.
To have a look around the aids and shop area you are very welcome to drop in anytime.  But please remember to book if you would like an assessment as we do not like customers to be disappointed.
